It is with regret to inform you that Teena Marie Known for 'Lovergirl' past away on Sunday morning. She was a phenomenal Soul singer in the late seventies and in the eighties.
Teena Marie's real name was Marie Christine Brockert. Born on march 5th 1956 in Santa Monica California. Grew up in West Los Angeles in a small town known as Vinness Harlem.
Teena Marie rose to fame with thanks to her mentor and then boyfriend the late funk legend Rick James. She had racked up 13 albums and six of them became plutonium on the U.S. R&B charts.
Teena Marie and Rick James had collaborated on the notable song "Fire & Desire".
Teena Marie suffered from a Grand Mal seizure recently while watching a movie on TV. It is possible that she had another one. This is to be confirmed.
On Christmas Day Teena Marie had tweeted a song by Sarah Vaughan 'May you never grow old, and may I never die.'
Teena Marie had also tweeted to her fans
"May Gods Light always shine on you and your family! May you have the most joyous Holiday season ever! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!"
Had Teena not have been living alone, she might have had help to save her. She was found dead by her daughter on Sunday evening.
Eddie Levert a legendary R&B singer, told CNN that "A lot of black people (including myself) swore by her and believed in her and her music."
One of Teena Marie's fans from facebook said, "The girl could sing, I mean she could throw down. I have to give her her props!"
